The Venus Flytrap is one of the most famous carnivorous plants in the world, native only to a small region of the Carolinas in the United States. Its modified leaves form snap traps that close in a fraction of a second when triggered by prey. Each trap can only close a few times before it withers, making every catch a costly investment for the plant.
